Winter in Killarney

Killarney takes on a whole new look during the winter period. Nature totally transforms with snow-capped mountains and still lakes. Can you imagine walking on the frosted pathways in the national park, leaves crunching under foot, spotting the native red deer in the distance, taking in the stunning winter views and breathing in the cool, crisp air? On a particularly good day the winter sunshine and Killarney’s natural beauty allows us to let go of our daily troubles and just be still.

As you walk into Killarney your eyes are treated to a town filed with attractive Christmas lights and festive shop displays. Killarney is a town that knows how to celebrate Christmas with parades beginning at the end of November and if you’re lucky enough you may get a glimpse of Santa, the big man is a regular visitor to Killarney during winter. The streets are filled with family and friends relaxing in coffee houses and browsing through the shops with buskers performing many of our favourite Christmas hits.

Once you have completed your Christmas shopping, walk, or for the more adventures of us a mountain hike around Killarney, you are then welcomed with roaring fires, a friendly smile and comforting traditional Irish fair in the Lake Hotel. As you sit down for dinner in our award – winning Castlelough Restaurant, tucking into a plate of warming locally sourced food and a cheeky Irish coffee for good measure you can relax and unwind into the festive surroundings of a Hotel full of Christmas cheer.

The Lake Hotel has extended its season this year and will remain open until 15th December. Annual refurbishment will take place from 15th December - 30th January. During this time, The Lake Hotel reservations team will be fully operational and happy to assist with any queries for 2020 & beyond. Christmas Vouchers may also be purchased during the hotel closure either at the hotel or, via phone/online 064 6631035 www.lakehotel.com. Each year, the Huggard family invest significantly in enhancing the hotel, last year’s project was a complete redesign of the hotel exterior, with a brand new entrance, resurfaced driveway, manicured landscape and eye catching signage. Following last year’s investment, the hotel has just been awarded “Best Signage” in the Killarney Looking Good awards. This award has added to a great year of accolades for the hotel; earlier this year The Lake Hotel was awarded Overall Country House Hotel of the Year, Munster’s Country House Hotel of the year, Romantic Hotel of the Year in Munster and Best Hotel Restaurant in Munster at the Irish Hotel awards, where Executive Head Chef Noel Enright took home the renowned title of Chef of the Year.
