Wrap up warm and head out to explore the wonders of The Killarney National Park. Be awed by the sight of deer grazing through the mist on a crisp winter’s morning, marvel as the magical winter light glistens off the lakes as you make your way to the enchanting Muckross Abbey, then head to Muckross House to warm up and delight in its festive decorations before indulging in a hot chocolate at the Muckross Garden Restaurant. Thinking of going further afield? Although some tours and attractions close over the winter months, if you have access to a car The Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula drives are as breath-taking as ever at this time of year. Stop off at one of the many beaches along the Wild Atlantic coastline and feel rejuvenated by the invigorating sea air during a wintery beach walk or sea swim then cosy up with a hot drink beside a log burning fire in a pub on the way back to Killarney.
Christmas in Killarney
Ignite your holiday spirit on the 23th November and witness the switching on of the Christmas lights and the Magic Parade that follows in Killarney Town centre. There are parades every Saturday from then until Christmas. From the 29th November a host of festive events begin throughout the town; Killarney on Ice reopens offering ice-skating sessions for all abilities, the local jaunting cars are converted into Sleighs and Deenagh Lodge is transformed into Santa’s Grotto- so why not book a sleigh ride to visit Santa this lead up to Christmas for some festival family fun? The INEC also has a full program of concerts and comedy this festive season- there really is something for everyone on this winter in Killarney!

Although The Lake Hotel closes on the 8th of December to undergo annual renovations, it makes for the perfect place for a pre-Christmas escape. The Lake Hotel closes annually over the Christmas period to invest and develop the hotel ensuring our standards are continuously met. This year we will be closed from the 8th of December 2024 until the 30th of January 2025.
